I am not really into using coupons. Maybe I can save more money than I do with coupons but I don't want to spend a lot of time collecting coupons and organizing them. Some people excel at this and I commend them for their dedication. That is just not me. But I did find a pretty cool deal with coupons that I thought was worth sharing.
This is a really good idea if you use coupons to pay for groceries. I cannot take all the credit for this. My wife really is the one who showed me how this works.
She takes the time to check for a few coupons. There are certain products that she knows will go on sale about once a month, maybe every two months. So she saves any coupons she finds for those products and then uses them when the products are on sale.
But last month she missed a sale and she was pretty mad at herself. And then a few days ago we were shopping at the grocery store and she checked the clearance table. By some dumb luck there were four packages left and she had her coupon with her. She got like a 90% discount because she bought the stuff on clearance and had a coupon.
Now if you're thinking, "Sure, how often is THAT going to happen?" you're right to be skeptical. If you want to start using coupons today don't count on finding stuff on clearance when you have a coupon in your pocket.
But don't be stupid. Check the clearance table for any stuff that you do have coupons for. Especially if the coupons are almost out-of-date. You just may find some great bargains you didn't expect, and once in a while you'll get to use your coupons.
I'm just saying this is common sense. Don't overlook those side opportunities for saving money.
